I’ve been asked many times why I became an artist. In reply, I always tell the same story. As a second grade student in Ms. Boxer’s class, we were given an assignment to draw a picture that included grass. Ms. Boxer reviewed our assignments then displayed to the class those she thought were the best. Mira Gross and Linda Vandine were presented as the best colorers and she commented on how well they colored their grass. I decided right then and there I was going to be the best grass colorer in her class.
