Wilburn Hartwell Stubblefield, aka Stubbie Stubblefield, was the first driver killed during a qualification attempt at the Indianapolis 500. His riding mechanic, Leo Whitacker was all killed. Born in Los Angles he was an actor in the 1932 movie The Crowd Roars with Jimmy Gagny. He appeared with Fred Frame and Wild Bill Cummings in the Throttle Pushers in 1933.
